Interests:I like reading and discussing philosophical literature, which sounds boring, but I guess it's good that I like it since that's my major... I like music a lot! You cannot possibly understand what music means to me (I have over 20000 of the most random songs ever on my iPod)... I love eating, especially Italian food (which is completely different and better in some ways in Italy, but I still like the Italian-American versions) and Chinese food and cereal, especially Cheerios and Special K... I love Gorilla Juice, which is an energy drink my friends' dad invented that has since been discontinued. Sobe (the citrus-y one) is the next best thing... I like dancing (swing, old school, hip-hop, hardcore, etc)...I like doing random funny things for no apparent reason (at least they're funny to me)... I like Star Wars and LotR because I'm kind of a nerd... I like reading a lot... So there's this place called Warminster, PA that I have been instructed to call home in the time between college, Sandy Cove, and when I move back to Jersey upon graduation. I spend time there on breaks and whatnot, and a while back I hung out there for a week or so between moving out at Messiah and moving in at Sandy Cove. This is the story of that time.
Pretty much right after I got home I went to my high school's spring concert, which was great other than the brief interlude of practically nonexistent (perhaps it would be better if they were actually nonexistent) junior high groups and hung out with some friends afterward. The day after that I went to Roxxy with David Atis and his cousin (we met Becky, Jess, Amanda Simpkins, and Wetz there) to see Asher Roth perform at the afterparty for his concert (pics here/review here). Saturday I hit up Barnes & Noble and Rita's with my sister, then went to the Troc to see Tony's band Giants Among Men (and my friend's boyfriend's band) play at Exposure Fest (review here) with Amanda Carlson, her brother and his girlfriend. Sunday I went to my home church, then out dancing at Shampoo with Amanda Bailiff, Shirley, and Hoopz. The DJs at Shampoo (on Sundays anyway) are much better than the other under 21 clubs in Philly, but it's a harder, sparser crowd too. Monday I pretty much stayed home, but Tuesday I went to Great Adventure with Amanda Carlson, her brother and his girlfriend, then stopped by Melissa's house. Wednesday I slept in and stayed home again, but Thursday I went to see Les Mis at my high school and then out to a diner with friends, followed by moving in at Sandy Cove. It was a pretty fabulous time at "home".
Our story begins back in April when I had just finished a ridonkulously busy weekend... That Wednesday I saw Floor Plan at b-sides (review here) and danced w/ Laura for what turned out to be the last time this year :( Thursday I went home (skipping Service Day cause I'm a sinner) Friday I went to my last doctor's appointment for my fractured pinky, shaved off all my scruffiness and got a haircut at Sam's in Collingswood, saw Shirley at a secondhand shop, went to lunch at Wendy's with Jenna, got cheesesteaks with the fam, then headed down to Chesapeake City for my cousin Sam's rehearsal dinner, followed by the following attempt at a bachelor party: 1) drive to Bmore 2) try to go to ESPN Zone 3) don't get in because a prom rented it out 4) drive to suburbs of Bmore 5) try to go to Dave & Buster's 6) don't get in because a prom rented it out 7) use restroom in a sports bar while watching part of an old Mike Tyson fight 8) go back to hotel Luckily his wedding went a little better... On Sunday I went to church at home, followed by the annual meeting, at which Pastor Vince passed out, followed by a church dinner, followed by the trip back to Messiah. That Wednesday I djed/ran sound for the U Rock festival that North Complex ResLife put on, with live sets from The Greenwash and a blues trio (review here) and that night saw Reilly at b-sides (review here) Somewhere in there I went to see the musical with Evan and the Wunder Twins and lost my backpack... That weekend I went to see Alex Brubaker at Coffee Co. (review here) and got a mocha latte called a Michael Jackson that had a picture of a dragon drawn on it... The next Wednesday was reading day, on which I djed the Student Film Festival afterparty/awards instead of going to the last b-sides (Margot & the Nuclear So-and-sos, who were supposedly amazing) Thursday was my final radio show on WVMM (at least until senior year) which I hopefully will have an mp3 of online at some point... mad kids came and hung out (Jared, Alex-we played his music, Steve-we played his music, Brittany, Amanda, Elizabeth-she read a liner card haha, Naomi... good times) Finals were INSANE! especially since I also had papers do and was trying to make up hmwk so I don't flunk out (which for me means a b average) That weekend, though, I went on an awesome scavenger hunt with Jared, Bryce, Dave, and Mary that involved trying to get girls numbers and various other activities... Went out for some Chick-fil-a Monday night, packed up and left Tuesday, and have been hanging out at home... Scattered throughout were a bunch of parties,l jam sessions, movies, and hanging out with awesome people...
It's so weird that I won't be back at Messiah for a whole year (assuming I get accepted to the Oxford program). I won't see anyone in the class above me and I won't know two classes worth of kids (not that I know that many freshies from this year anyway). Craziness.
I have been putting off this update FOREVER, by which I mean since early March. Since there is way yonder too much crap to talk about to do it all in one entry, I'm going to do one per month (March & April).
B-sides on April Fool's Day was Bishop Allen (review here), and then Friday I DJed in the Cave of Wunder at Spring Fling with Nate Norman and Le Gold (the main floor was Liz DeJesus and John Edwards), followed by Thank You For Smoking (hilarious!) at Brian's. While I was DJing, a speaker fell on my computer and stopped the music. Jared covered for me on the mic while I frantically got an old mixtape I made running to finish out the set. Saturday morning I got up and drove home to DJ my sister's Sweet 16, which went well. Sunday was church and then the trip back to school.
That week I got to do some salsa at b-sides with Pistolera (review here). We had a long weekend for Easter, so I took the train to Philly after class Thursday, walked about a mile to the car because traffic was so bad, got cheesesteaks at someplace that won Best of Philly twice (they weren't really that good), and spent the night at what used to be the Crystal Inn in North East (their pool was gross!). Friday I spent the day at Sandy Cove, went back to Jersey for Good Friday service, then dancing at Roxxy with Shirley, Amanda, David Atis, Laura, and Edwin. Saturday was a trip to the mall with my sister followed by The Apathy Eulogy's CD release show (review here) at the Recher Theatre in Towson, for which we got tickets straight from the box player! Sunday was church (packed with the Chreasters) and then Rock Band at Marsh's house.
Monday I had my follow-up appointment for my pinky (which is still fractured but I'm wearing the splint less), then went back to school. Tuesday was an acoustic show in the Fishbowl (review here) thrown by a Relay for Life team. Wednesday was Extra Golden at b-sides (review here), where I danced with (and therefore met) Jordan, who is visiting from Seattle. Unfortunately there was no salsa on Thursday, but I did do my radio show and have a jam session so it was okay. Friday was Relay for Life all night (including a couple of bands playing; no review because I don't know what they were called and was a lil' tired), which Pfeiffer DJed, and I danced for hours, turned on the radio station at 7 AM, went to sleep, got up at 11, set up and ran sound for bands at Spring Arts Day (and DJed in between sets) (review here), went to sound check and then performed at gospel choir's spring concert, then another jam session, and then slept from 2-2. I still have some homework to do and will hopefully be cleaning my room (at least a little bit).
That catches me up to the present. Hopefully I'll be posting a little more frequently in the future, though.
I have been putting off this update FOREVER, by which I mean since early March. Since there is way yonder too much crap to talk about to do it all in one entry, I'm going to do one per month (March & April).
My previous entry was posted on March the 8th, so I'll start with that week and for brevity's sake try and stick to the main points. Wednesday night I hung out with my friend and fellow UVP tenor Calvin (Bro. Calvin myspace) during his live performance on Derek Petrella's "show that defines rock" on the V, then went to b-sides to see Flatfoot 56 (review here), during which I danced with Laura and Jared, fractured my pinky in a circle pit, and had my hoodie stolen (Evan Cosby eventually got the hoodie back from the kid who stole it at some party-love that guy!). Sometime in there Facebook decided to change itself AGAIN, which is getting really annoying...
Spring Break was pretty awesome this year. For the beginning of it I went on tour with gospel choir. We went to Ohio, to a couple of churches and a school, and had a lot of fun, especially at the bonfire at Joake's house and getting more comfortable with the music (we started our constant yelling to hype up the crowd at that school performance). Spent a few days quietly at home after that, including an awesome Saint Patrick's Day with The Quiet Man, Winnie the Pooh, and a hospital/doctor (St. Mary's and the same doctor that misdiagnosed my dad's knee injury 30 years ago) visit to find out what was wrong with my pinky. I also got to watch Lost with the fam, always a favorite activity (which reminds me how badly I need to catch up). That Thursday I went to Chris's house to hang with him, Meghan, and Kaile, then back home for dinner, followed by a drive down to Temple to watch some ridonkulous horror movies with Kelsey and her roomies and Stepbrothers with Shelby and friends at her all-girls art school (yeah, I went there ;P). Friday night I went back to Temple for Meggan's birthday party with Christina and her friends from school, Rachel and the Pottsville kids (good times). Saturday was watching my music team from high school (who are now called Vocal Forte) winning the regional a capella competition at Cherry Hill West (videos here courtesy of Teej) and then dancing at 27 with Shirley, Amanda, Christi, and Hoopz & Co. Sunday was church and the trip back to school.
The first Tuesday back gospel choir performed in chapel, which went well, and I forgot all about a philosophy exam, which did not go well (but I got to make it up :D). B-sides that week was Mike-E (review here) which I missed most of because I was starring in a video for an Asian discrimination chapel. Friday night was the Josh Ritter/John Francis show (review here) and celebrating Lici's birthday, Saturday was running sound/DJing for Speak Up!, and Sunday was an epic trip to Bmore with Alex, Amanda, and two of Alex's friends for The Devil Wears Prada's Sweet Brag Tour (review here).
That wraps up my month of March. April info should be coming soon!
Now that it's daylight savings time, I have saved up enough daylight for another post about my life. I've been posting a lot of stuff recently, but music stuff over at my other blog. Apparently I haven't posted on this since the 25th, so I'll start there:
That night I (as always) watched Lost and then headed over to b-sides. That week was bluesman Jim Bianco (read my review of the show here). Thursday was my usual craziness, juggling work, salsa, and my radio show. Friday was the rave in the Fishbowl-basically some upperclass computer science guys playing a lot of techno, electro, and trance for a few hours with flashing lights and whatnot, after which I watched Bad Boys in Matt's apartment with a bunch of people. Saturday I went to a hotel where a friend of mine works and filmed this video
along with trying to speak with a ghost in a room where a guy died, and being highly amused when an extremely drunk man was dropped off by the police.
This week was pretty intense. Monday was gospel choir (we're preparing to go on tour over spring break), Tuesday I went to see Lydia with Evan and Kiersten (review here), Wednesday was lost and an epic b-sides featuring Will Gray and Gretel (review here), Thursday was salsa and the radio, Friday was Baila (La Alianza Latina's dance), and Saturday was a bonfire at Victoria's house after bootlegging a movie in an undisclosed academic building. Today I unfortunately woke up too late for church, and will soon have to do homework, but at least I've been having fun. Peace & love kids!
